Living Room Lads

The Living Room Lads are an enthralling acoustic rock/pop duo, based in Kingston Upon Hull. The group was formed in April of 2014, after Fill Cardy and Lee Starr merged their skills as independent singer/songwriters to create the beauteous sound of The LRL. The group have already been involved with Sonic Moles Records and EGH Radio, as well as events such as the Cottingham Springboard Festival. 
Their sound is characterised by the duo's delicate vocals and sweet guitar lines that evoke a tranquil vibe. They're the sort of band you'll depend on when you need to 'take a breather' and indulge in some chill time. Their songs are a beautiful blend of emotion and soul-soothing vibes.
'All of my days' channels an 'happy go lucky' front through peppy, upbeat guitar, creating a lucid and sweet ballad. The bridge of the song is driven by a vivacious and mirthful guitar solo. It'll make you want to grab your nearest and dearest and dance the night away.
'The Game' is the most mellow of their songs, adopting an almost country-esque sound through the melancholy of the song.The vocals are incredibly melodic, whilst the  guitar lines are soulful, intricate and full bodied. It's a compellingly lugubrious track that clearly showcases the group's panache for song writing.
Their strongest song however, is the enchanting 'Falling for You'. The track opens with a delicate guitar riff that's similar style to that of Jake Bugg's, whilst the charming vocals cement the song as a sincere guitar-pop tune. The song possesses that classic ballad feel - I can imagine countless boy bands attempting to cover the song. (Visions of emotional scenes in the rain through a black and white filter come to mind.) The lyrics are incredibly heart-felt are heightened  by the endearing tone of the vocals, allowing the song to become utterly earnest and beautiful. The line: "Those angel wings flew for fashion but not for me", really resonated with me, and made it apparent that this song is fuelled by a vast quantity of raw emotion. The song is truly beautiful and bewitched me.
The LRL have such a gorgeous sound and I shall definitely be adding them to my chilled playlist. Hats off to you lads  - I look forward to hearing more music from you!

Merseyside natives The K's kicked off 2018 by announcing that they had been signed to Republic Music Management. With a handful of sold-out headline shows already under their belt, their tongue-and-cheek indie tunes are earning them a loyal fan base and plenty of buzz. Documentary: Grass Root - How music cities are saving grass root music venues

Last year, I had the pleasure of going around the UK creating an audio documentary for my degree's final project. I looked into how music city organisations are helping to preserve independent music venues in the UK, and the cultural significance of these bijoux venues. I thought it was an apt time to release this documentary, as many venues in the UK are currently struggling due to lockdown. The documentary explores the issues that venues have faced over the last decade, from high business rates to changes in planning laws. It can be difficult for these vital cultural hubs to stay open, without having to deal with the repercussions of a global pandemic. ReBalance - Is Positive Discrimination towards Women in Music the way Forward?

The organisers of Reading and Leeds Festival, FestivalRepublic, have faced criticism in recent years for their male dominated line-ups. Melvin Benn, the managing director of Festival Republic,   told the Guardian that the reason behind theirmale-centric line ups was because "they sell tickets... if there was a female act in the rock genre that sold the same amount of tickets as any of the headline acts... I'd book them". However Benn recently announced that Festival Republic is launching a new initiative in 2018 that positively discriminates towards female artists. The Leeds based 'ReBalance' project will run for three years and each month will provide a female musician, solo artist or female fronted band with a week in a recording studio, with all the expenses, travel and accommodation paid for by Festival Republic.
