The Demimondaines - Redemption Hymns EP

The Deminmondaines are a Scarborough based rock four piece, with a ballsy, 'no frills' vigour. Their sound draws parallels with the livelier material from  Pearl Jam, with vocals possessing an edge similar to that of Dave Grohl's from the Foo Fighters.
What's great about this band is that they do what it says on the tin. They're breathing new life into classic rock, a species which many believe to be dead. However, these alpha males specialise in catchy melodies, composed of gritty guitar riffs and soulful keyboard, creating a full heavy sound driven by their vivacious drums. Their songs are full bodied and the quintessential classic British rock. It's so refreshing to hear a reliable rock band that isn't in your face with their 'ethos'. The Demimondaines produce great tracks that make me want to dance and have a blast with my mates and forget about the 9-5 worries. In other words, they are doing what every good rock band should be doing.
The band come into their own through their dynamic live performances, which showcases their relentless and explosive energy. The Demimondaines are guaranteed to be the catalyst for your inner rocker.
This vibe is particularity apparent in their latest EP, 'Redemption Hymns', four tracks of powerful guitar, fervid keys, bold bass and ebullient vocals.
The EP opens with the punchy and bad ass tune 'Wastes of Time' - a fusion of ferocious guitar, unyielding drums and hearty bass lines, to create gorgeously rich sound. The bridge in the song permits McInerney to showcase his flair on the keyboard with an enchanting solo, creating a compelling ambience before the track explodes into the final colossal chorus.
'How does it feel' is an upbeat track combining scintillating guitar, sturdy bass and 'tongue and cheek' lyrics. There's something incredibly satisfying about belting out: "How does it feel to be so f**king special"! I'm sure we all know someone who fits this line beautifully!
'The Beat Goes on' adopts a more gutsy and bluesy tone which will motivate audiences to indulge in a wild grove. The guitar solos in this track are just superb are heightened when combined with the funky keys and alluring vocals .
The EP concludes with the aptly entitled track 'Not fading out', a blend of mighty percussion, beguiling vocals and gritty guitar riffs. The protracted chorus will undoubtedly unite audiences through appreciative descants.
The lads have just performed a killer set at the Cottingham Springboard Music Festival, as well as appearing at Burniston Rocks and the Scarborough Beer Festival and making a guest appearance on EGH Radio. Furthermore the group are playing at The Sesh at the Polar Bar in Hull on June 2nd, and are planning to travel to the North East to play more gigs. So keep an eye out my fellow Geordies!

Track of the Week - Sarajevo - The K's

Merseyside natives The K's kicked off 2018 by announcing that they had been signed to Republic Music Management. With a handful of sold-out headline shows already under their belt, their tongue-and-cheek indie tunes are earning them a loyal fan base and plenty of buzz. Their debut single 'Sarajevo' is an infectiously catchy and utterly charming track. The vocals are akin to a more in-tune Jamie T, giving their witty lyrics a warm ambiance.  The upbeat melody gives a nod to early 2000s indie, but the ferocious riffs and hearty bass lines give it plenty of originality.  The track has already achieved half a million streams on Spotify and it's a sure bet that there's bigger and better things on the horizon for The K's. demos or my nightmare? - CULT LUST demo review

Indie gigs have changed. Gone are the days when you danced or bopped along to the likes of Swim Deep  or Peace , indie kids want to mosh. Hence the birth of Cult Lust,  a ferocious fusion of fuzzy guitar and relentless percussion, that creates a heavy lo-fi sound. It's called skuz-pop - don't worry, I had to do google it too! Just imagine a band who's primary concern is making loud, gritty, grungy tunes. Despite only forming a few weeks ago, the band have already produced a two track demo; promoted via their active and bountiful social networking platforms. Both tracks are fairly lengthy (approx 10 mins combined), meaning the group are already a third of the way to having a live set under their belt. It's a really candid and raw recording, giving you insight into their practice sessions. This is best represented by the second track 'headf*ck' being opened by their front man saying "anyway, here's wonderwall" before exploding asking his fellow

Middlesbrough Pub Bans Female Fronted Bands

Middlesbrough pub and rock music venue; Doctor Brown's ; has caused outrage after implementing a ban on female fronted bands, stating their customers believe that women can't sing rock music well. The story gained national attention after The Northern Echo published a damning article on the situation.  Consequently, residents and musicians have started to boycott the venue. I contacted Doctor Brown's to hear their side of the story. Had the situation been blown out of proportion on social media, or were outdated, sexist attitudes being called out? Paula Rees, the pub's manager cited that the Northern Echo had lied and "twisted her words" and she was eager to talk to me to "set the record straight". She said that was more than happy to talk, asking me to ring up later when the pub was a little quieter. Rees also confessed that she wasn't a "big rock fan" and was just going with what her customers wanted, stating that they had
