Bernaccia - 'Awake' track review

For those of you who haven't had the utmost pleasure of listening to Bernaccia , I am so sorry. You really are missing out. The dynamic group are due to release their latest single 'Awake' in early April, ahead of their highly anticipated debut album 'Growl Peace Belief'. It comes as no surprise that the psyche rock group have maintained their high energy sound with 'Awake', layering upbeat percussion with a colossal rhythm section and gorgeously soulful vocals. The track opens with intricate synth and peppy drums before welcoming Ellen Chetcuti's dreamy, yet powerful vocals. As the track progresses, an armada of bold riffs amplify the enchanting tone of the track, creating a blues rock bliss. The addition of Jonny Noble's vocals not only creates a charming harmony, but reinforces the bluesy vibe and revitalises the track, keeping the audience hooked during the concluding instrumental. During which, the band combine chanting-esque voc

WHO THE FOOK ARE THE ROOK - The Rook E.P review

Usually when someone inboxes me on Instagram asking me to listen to their E.P, I'm a little apprehensive. However, when the bassist of Leeds based band The Rook   told me about their debut E.P, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was there was no scam websites (or worse - pop punk) in sight, but it was a really solid set indie-rock of tunes. Photo by Nathan Robinson                                               The eponymous E.P opens with '(Do You) Love to Feel?'. The introduction is a gorgeously indulgent layering of delicate percussion and a charming guitar lick, before exploding into a louder, rockier sound. The song is fuelled by beefy guitar and catchy lyrics, giving it a clean, no-frills vibe. It's everything you want from an indie rock song, its gritty enough to make it interesting, but still upbeat enough to dance and sing along to. The Rook  sound very similar to Newcastle band Sundance,  who have been pinned down as 'the ones to watch'

Video Killed the Radio Star - Music videos for rainy days

A-Ha - Take on me This 80's anthem is accompanied by a quaint animated romance that bagged it six awards at the 1986 MTV Music Awards. I'm sure you've all seen it, however I had to mention this guilty pleasure of mine. Paolo Nutini - Pencil full of lead As much as I love Paolo Nutini's music, I find the way he performs slightly underwhelming. He spends the whole time with his eyes closed or shaking his head towards the ground. However the video to 'Pencil full of Lead' resolved this issue by transforming him into an animated bit of clay. And the revenge of the sassy dancing girls refusing to be subject to sexist attitudes is just brilliant to watch. Weezer - Buddy Holly The Fonz getting his jam on. Need I say more? The xx - Islands The choreography in this video is stunning. Take note of how the dancers subtly change their moves as the video progresses. The concept for the video is so simple, but it works brilliantly and the end pr

Old Faithfuls - Most listened to Albums

No matter how varied your music taste is, there's always a few albums to can't help but put on. So please relish in my guilty pleasures! The Balcony - Catfish and the Bottlemen There's something about the unromantic charm of their lyrics and overindulgent guitar solos that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. Yes they're copying a lot of other people, but they're combining lots of elements that I enjoy. Consequently, they're one of my favourite bands and I cannot wait for their second album. Back to Black - Amy Winehouse My dad has always been an avid lover of music. I used to beg to listen to his vinyls with him when I was a kid, so that we could spend a day together away from forcing me how to learn to ride a bike. (I have never been sporty!) 'Back to Black' was one of my favourites to listen to and I've always adored Amy Winehouse's voice and blunt lyrics. If I'm ever feeling low I stick 'My Tears Dry On their Own' on and g
