'Speak and Spell' is the latest track from melancholic alt-pop
group Glass Peaks. The Kent based four-piece are rapidly becoming one of the
most talked about bands in the South East, after their debut single 'Your Eyes'
was awarded Track of the Week by BBC Introducing Kent, as well as selling out
three London headline shows.
The track opens with an upbeat guitar riff, before welcoming
a punch ebullient percussion and front man Lewis' enigmatic vocals. This
creates a rich sound that balances catchy melodies with a brooding suaveness,
cementing it as exciting and engaging from the get-go.
Lewis' vocals are
particularly impressive on this track, with him illustrating a sophisticated
technical skill, opposed to the rough and unpolished tones that have saturate
the indie and alternative genres in recent years.
The track is elevated by the clever incorporation of
enchanting harmonies and poignant licks, providing the track with an
interesting edge. This combined with the darker vocal tones, makes the track resemble
the likes of Foals and Spector, which will undoubtedly allow the band to entice
a wide audience.
Overall, it's a great follow up track that showcases a
edgier, grittier side to Glass Peaks, whilst preserving their effortlessly cool
sound.
If Glass Peaks continue to produce tracks like 'Speak and
Spell', they will undoubtedly thrive in the indie scene and I'm really excited to see how the group
progress and develop their sound in 2017.
