Tranqua Lite - 'Tempered Tides' Track Review

'Tempered Tides' is the highly anticipated debut single from Leeds acoustic rock group Tranqua Lite
The band launched the track last week, with an electric gig at Leeds' Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen.

The song opens with peppy drums and a sweet guitar melody before welcoming ebullient counter-melodies, producing an upbeat, intricate sound. The interwoven melodies create an exciting, almost tropical vibe, which gives the song bags of character and makes it super easy to dance along to.

The bass line packs a herculean punch, elevating the song into an uber catchy track. This is coupled with front-man Ben Marcano-Oliver's chilled vocals, giving the song a full bodied yet balanced sound.

The highlight of the track is the instrumental jam before the final chorus, which  radiates this energetic, bold sound. I'm envisaging a paisley clad audience throwing some serious shapes to this gorgeous explosion of audial vigour.

Overall, it's a really refreshing track. It's clear that the band is composed of some really talented musicians and they're not just churning out easy 'four-chord wonders'. Their sound is distinctive and imaginative, and 'Tempered Tides' is undoubtedly a crowd pleaser.

They've managed to produce something really clever and unique, without being pretentious or inaccessible. The combination of soft angelic harmonies with beefy, bold bass lines  creates this wonderful three-dimensional sound that's just an absolute pleasure to listen to.

There's definitely a gap in the scene for a band like Tranqua Lite and I can't wait to hear more from them.

Track of the Week - Sarajevo - The K's

Merseyside natives The K's kicked off 2018 by announcing that they had been signed to Republic Music Management. With a handful of sold-out headline shows already under their belt, their tongue-and-cheek indie tunes are earning them a loyal fan base and plenty of buzz. Their debut single 'Sarajevo' is an infectiously catchy and utterly charming track. The vocals are akin to a more in-tune Jamie T, giving their witty lyrics a warm ambiance.  The upbeat melody gives a nod to early 2000s indie, but the ferocious riffs and hearty bass lines give it plenty of originality.  The track has already achieved half a million streams on Spotify and it's a sure bet that there's bigger and better things on the horizon for The K's. Poison - Mouses Track review

After relentless gigging, Billingham's lo-fi garage-punk duo Mouses are set to release their debut single: 'Poison'. If you haven't heard Mouses  before (firstly, where have you been for the past two years?), imagine the love child of  The Thermals, Dinosaur Jr  and Wheatus  on a generous kick of acid. The track opens by submerging you into a whirlpool of distorted guitar and fuzzy vocals, invigorating the track with a relentless energy. Despite the initially aggressive tone of the track, the infectiously catchy chorus provides it with a poppy undertone, making it incredibly upbeat and easy to dance/sing along to. I can envisage audiences belting out the lines: "I'm not breaking bones for you, I can be myself with a little bit of poison" - or at least that's what I presume Ste is singing under that heavy lo-fi disguise. If I'm perfectly honest, I'm unsure what the song is about, referencing' everything from; a 'crashing tiger...

BAND OF THE WEEK - NAKED SIX

At the weekend I had the utmost pleasure of attending Hedfest  in Hedon. The main support on the Saturday night was York based rock group 'Naked Six'. Now I'm going to recommend you do not try and search for them online, follow my links. I have seen things I cannot unsee. Rather than some questionable pornography, feast your eyes and ears their energetic single: 'The Way I feel'. Fuelled by ebullient drums, ferocious guitar, beefy bass and bellowing vocals, it's sophisticated enough wow audiences, without being self-indulgent. SUPPORT NAKED SIX FACEBOOK
