London based trio Bronte, are one of the South's best hidden gems, with their suave brand of chilled yet oh so catchy indie pop tunes.
The group recently released their debut E.P., entitled 'Hands', and plan to release a new self titled single in the near future.
The title track of the E.P. is the quintessential indie-pop love song, driven by energetic guitar riffs, quirky lyrics about far from perfect love and ambient synth, creating an upbeat easy-listen full of attitude and character.
'Hands' is the stand out track for Bronte, taking the title of the strongest and catchiest track on the E.P, as it plays to their strengths as a group and is definitely the direction they should go in.
The second track on the E.P. 'Actors', opens with a preppy guitar riff before welcoming a soulful lick and a strong beat, making it a really accessible and interesting track - perfect to dance along to. It follows on smoothly from 'Hands' allowing the band to create a sense of a individual sound, showing both great musicianship and potential.
Their track 'Midnight' highlights the influence of The 1975's debut album, radiating a chilled ambiance fuelled by enigmatic synth and gorgeously moody lilting vocals.
The gritty tone to the vocals and heavy use of reverb maintains a sense of originality, opposed to just another copy-cat regurgitation of The 1975.
However, although there's nothing wrong with the track and when isolated it's a very strong piece of music, Bronte are at their best when they're more guitar driven like in 'Hands' and 'Actors'. That being said, I feel as though this track will work really well as part of a live set, as it'll provide variety within their sound.
